Disaster Response

The day after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, EHMC was asked to dispatch seven ambulances to Slidell, Louisiana to assist in the transportation and care of the hurricane victims. EMHC had crews staged and working in the New Orleans area for one week and transported 40 patients to Memphis for care during that time, and many to other hospitals within Louisiana for higher levels of care.

When Hurricane Gustav approached the gulf coast, FEMA decided to evacuate the area of New Orleans. EMHC provided 24 hour EMS service in conjunction with the Memphis Fire Department and other local agencies to provide assistance and processing of evacuees into Memphis area shelters. This mission was very successful. Our team of EMT’s stepped up to the plate and ensured each evacuee’s medical needs were taken care of.
